Climate change has already impacted on innumerable communities, exposing them to increasing hazards and making them vulnerable. Climate Link can assist in assessing climate change vulnerability and adaptive capacity, and in developing context specific responses.

Vulnerability assessment includes the following key steps:

  1. Assessment of the exposure of the system to climate variation
  2. Assessment of the sensitivity of the community to climatic stresses, looking particularly at livelihood resources
  3. Assessment of the resilience or adaptive capcity of the community, through understanding coping strategies

Once the current state is understood, adaptive solutions can be developed with stakeholders using the soft systems methodology (SSM) approach to ensure development activities are desirable and feasible.
